Yesterday a demonstration against Syrian refugees in Gaziantep was planned on Facebook with around 7.000 follower. Even though the police did not permit this demonstration, it sadly shows the social difficulties in this area. Even though many, or even most of the Turkish people help and support their neighbours, there is also a growing hostility in the Turkish public. Due to the high numbers of incoming refugees, and a lacking mid- and long-term solution from the Turkish government, people start to unite against refugees. This has already let to violent clashes between the two groups. For the sake of a peaceful coexistence and the ongoing necessary humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees I hope that all actors on the ground find sustainable solutions as soon as possible!
